Romans 10:9 says, "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Salvation is God’s grace. It is the gift of freedom from our sins that Jesus made possible by taking the punishment for our sins on the cross (see Ephesians 2:8).
In the Bible, the word sin means to "miss the mark." Romans 3:23 says, "...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Sin is a problem we are born with that we cannot solve, it is a chasm that separates us from God. But God, in His infinite love, made a way to bridge the chasm and pay a debt He did not owe and we could not afford. Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, we are now reconciled with God (see Colossians 1:21-22) and redeemed (see Ephesians 1:7).
Through this gift, 1 John 1:9 promises that “If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This is one of the most important promises of Scripture; it gives us freedom and hope for the future.
